Hello everyone )
First off my nick is Halfzipp, real name Brad. I just came across this site as I was looking for a new hacker type game. Ive played Uplink, Hacker Evolution and a few others but always wanted something that was like those games but took a bit more knowledge and skill. So needless to say, when I came across this game I was very excited. I have spent some time on the more 'hardcore' sites, like hackthissite.org, rootthisbox, smashthestack, and a couple others, but having a mix is definitely a good thing.
I guess a bit about myself.. Im 28 and live in Canada and am quite a pot head ). Ive been into computers since I can remember. My father had built an Altair, so ever since the day I was born I had some sort of computer around me. I guess everything really started around grade 6.. The school I was attending had a small computer lab with Unisys machines, running unix. Mostly we used them to create very simple 2D pictures with the Basic programming language. Ever since then I have been quite addicted to computers and technology in general. I guess about 1998 I started to work in the industry. I first worked with a company called MDG where I built systems. I then went onto a few other computer stores, working as a tech, building and repairing PCs. About 2000 I started attending Xintra Toronto, a computer college in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where I took A+, Network+ and did some of my MCSE/CCNA. I spent the next few years building and repairing PCs and also started to get into the software side of things. Ill admit that when I first started I was very much a script kiddy. My girlfriend at the time and I used to sit for hours, going though systems we would find on the net, using SubSeven and NetBus. Actually when I was younger I also used to spend alot of time on BBS, Bulletin Board System. I guess it was around 2003 when I started to get into programming again and started off with some VB, as I was somewhat familiar with Basic. I then spent some time going back and forth between languages, until I learned about C#. I spent a year or so working with C#, which is a great language btw, very easy to learn and use and especially because of Visual Studio, which is the one and only microsoft application I actually like. Rather LOVE, because it really is an amazingly powerful application, or IDE if you will. So from there I got into game programming, due to the fact that Ive always been a very avid gamer. I started taking a course at The Game Institute, C++ for game programming and Programming with DirectX, which were both excellent courses and I do recommend The Game Institute to anyone wanting to get into game programming, that also doesnt want to spend too much. So I did that for a little while and then WoW came out.. Ofcourse I jumped on the band wagon right away and started playing, although it did not take long for me to get bored with the game, or rather to find many aspects of the game that I did not like.. Long story short, I was banned 4 days after I started for... altering certain aspects of the game... which Blizzard was not too happy about. Its amazing what one can do with packet injection, =P.. anywho.. I still had quite a interest in playing the game so I started my own server, one of the first of the private servers, it was called The Dank Domain.. anywho, I ran that for a bout 2 years until I just couldnt take the stress anymore.. Its not easy running a custom server alone. and especially when you get DDoSd every other day... So that was the end of WoW, at least for the time.. I then started doing some work with bots in Americas Army Online.. At the time I left AAO we were making bots that were almost entirely autonomous.. Mind you they moved in very basic ways.. The bot would move forward until it couldnt anymore, turn 90 degrees and go forward again.. Very basic stuff. It actually all started with an anti afk feature that someone built into one of their bots.. Unfortunately the 'hacker' community was rather small and the game eventually just kind of died.. Im not sure if people really play it anymore. I went onto a few other games, all the CODs, RO, RS, MS, lots of little games like that.. actually goin gback a bit, I started my MMORPG gaming with a game called EverQuest and played that for a bout 6 years. Getting back to more recent times.. About a year ago I started attending Red River College, and was in the IST course, Information Systems Technology. This course covered alot of material on both basic computing, networking, databases and programming. The main 'thing' i guess, that I spent my time on was Java programming.. and I must admit, before taking this course I always thought java was fairly ghetto if you will.. I just associated it with those very easy to defeat password boxes on older websites and some very basic mobile applications.. Now I know that Java is actually an extremely powerful and robust language and also fairly easy to learn and work with. You can do alot more with it than I ever thought. I guess that brings us to now.. These days I spend most of my time on the computer either working on programming, gamming or studying Quantum Physics and recently the relation between Quantum Physics and Kabbalah, but thats another story.. Lately Ive been playing alot of Combat Arms and CoD5 as well as a couple internet based games.. one for example is Slave Hack, which I think Im actually done with now, its just too much of the same brainless shite, over and over.. Which is yet another reason why I am so excited about this game. I also recently had an urge to check out WoW again so I opened a trial account.. ofc it didnt take long for the ol packet sniffer to open again =P. Which was interesting because I found that Blizzard had made some changes to the packets and how they were sent and received. Again, thats a story for another time, heh.
I think that about covers it.. If anyone has any questions please dont hesitate to ask.. Ill do my best to answer questions honestly... =P also, Ive got nothing but time on my hands so am very willing to put many ridiculous hours into this game and ofc help out where ever I can.
I hope that is good, altho by the length Id say its sufficient for a hello post =P
Well, take care all and I look forward to seeing you all in game soon.
