They are especially helpful when they're on. But yeah, trash talking them isn't advised.
Otherwise, we are generally a good bunch and should help you out if you ask in help ;)

Like kal said, don't screw with the staff, they are a gd bunch and enjoy a laugh but they can and will /stfu (mute) you if you start bad mouthing in any of the 3 main channels
Speaking of the chat
General-0 - Just about anything can be discussed here, if there is already a chat going try to join in and not attempt to talk over the top of them
Trade-0 - Anything you want to Buy or Sell (cards, commods, scripts) leave a message here and anyone who is interested will respond, if a load of people come on line then resend it so everyone gets the message
Help-0 - Anything you want help on ask here, try to use the wiki as much as possible as if you ask about everything sooner or later someone will tell you to RTFM (Read the F***ing Manual)
There is 2 much to explain here alone so if you get really stumped, check the wiki and ask around
P.S Do the quests as they will give you some exp and basic info
P.S.S Don't do Alexi (cash quest) as he is bugged up, will just take your money

When you get a message in the ~GAME MESSAGES tab that says that an IP has been very busy, make sure that you enter the IP into the in-game web browser as well as try to find it on the High Scores table before you try to attack it. The IP's that go busy the most often are usually those of the higher level players. Failing to check them will most likely cause you to Overheat on their firewalls and probably get a high level player hacking you as soon as you're out of noob protection (level 30).
Also, before you try to use your FTP port replace the script on it with a new one from Ali's store (Ali is the NPC store). The FTP script that you start with is bugged.
Welcome to the game. If you need any help there are usually a number of experienced players online willing to help you out.

whenever I "check" the devs' IPs somebody hacked them already...
Don't worry too much who you hack. If you see the target is too strong then switch to another. But checking them before starting any attack is a good idea (like aoi suggested)
And about those often busy IPs: Those are often very vulnerable if attacked right. But that is more for total level >200-300.
But in every case (except the NPCs): be prepared for a possible counter (may take awhile if the user is offline or afk)
