A member of my family has decided he wants to donate a very large amount ($1,000-$5,000). I do not know when and I am not lieing about this. Hopefully it will be soon but I really do not know. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful towards the decision :)
If you're not kidding...
In general, I think consulting said founder (Benjamin E. Coe, if Twitter does not lie -- just look to HackWars Twitter bar on the right) about where that kind of money can go is a good idea. HackWars isn't really meant to be a huge project, and, in fact, AFAIK, Ben supports the game with his own money. It doesn't really bring in profit. The hiring of dev's and purchase of advertisement is where I think it would go, if not towards the founder's wallet. Admittedly, I suppose he would deserve it, considering he's hosted the game on his own money, I believe, for several years now.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on these facts or if they have a better idea than contacting Benjamin E. Coe. I don't know how you would go about contacting him, but asking here is not a bad idea. (I assume that this will, eventually, reach admins, although if that's before the donation, I have no idea) Of course, this is all under the assumption that this isn't a huge joke. Even so, you could support HackWars by upgrading your account. (via that upgrade link in the top right corner of the site, for $5/month =P)
And just out of curiosity : Why does your relative want to donate?

He said that he wanted to see
He said that he wanted to see the game progress. He is a programmer and likes the game. His parents had just died and he inherited $22,598,900. So he thought it would be nice to donate, but in this new line of thought i will ask him about it. If he respects Ben's wishes then I am truly sorry I mentioned it.

Bank Camping
Great, now everyone is going to be camping Ben's bank port with attack ports waiting for a large transfer. ;)
But seriously, as stated above, Ben Coe would be the person to contact about any large donation to the game. So far, the game has been paid for out of pocket and by the few upgraded accounts and micro-transactions that come along. Up to this point the game has progressed kind of slowly because it was only developed in free time when the developers weren't busy with other life issues. Development is still alive and rolling and players can still expect to see new content/features.
If your relative is still serious about possibly donating then it would probably be best to have him contact Ben directly at BenCoe@gmail.com to discuss it with him.
-----------------------------------------
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and you get rid of him all weekend.
So, to sum it all up--
Contact Benjamin E. Coe at either (maybe both simultaneously just in case):
bcoe@uoguelph.ca
BenCoe@gmail.com
Ask him about the donation. He pays for the game himself mostly. As far as the community is aware, development is active, but slow. Obviously, getting paid for working on the game or a larger user base (thanks to donation-paid pay-per-click advertising) would definitely be incentives to work on the game.
The game is technically in an open beta phase, so it's not too close to being finished, meaning development (possibly in the extreme) is not unlikely (assuming motivation of a few thousand dollars ;D ). Advertising campaigns could also be discussed, because one of the serious issues is the small user base. While HW has been growing, a few hundred more players (meaning maybe 10 or 20 more active players at any given time) would make the game better in general. And again, considering the beta status's possible development and several glitches, more feedback and more developers would probably be helpful.
Sorry I have not followed up
Sorry I have not followed up on this. It turns out he did not donate. I am very sorry I had mentioned it with haste. After something had happened within the family he decided not to over something so controversial I do not wish to repeat or I just may go and kill him. I hope I have not disappointed anyone. I can try to get him to rethink but possibilities are slim. If you have any problems or questions you can ask me when I am playing or contact me at bobf78000@gmail.com

Did you make that up?
:/
No
No I was not joking. I did not make it up. It may seem that way to people but I am no jokester over something like this. Once again I am deeply sorry for mentioning this.
