Is this supposed to happen?

Well, Hello. xD I'm new here, mmkay?
And I know its not supposed to happen.. But here's a pic of what I got atm

I just logged in, and at first it was all black.
I started moving the chat around a little, and that started to happen.. Discovered the 4 button in the top left corner, pressed them, and they got stuck there.. I couldn't click them or anything though
Started fooling around with the chat box again, and then I got that xD, Anything I should do to fix it, or is it just 'cos no OpenGL

Please reference this thread, which is about the same (or very similar) problem: http://www.hackwars.net/node/864

might not be HWs fault

I run HW myself on Win7 without those issues. Maybe the following from http://software.allindiansite.com/jfaqs/swing.html helps

(Sect. 11) My Swing program runs fine on one of my MS Windows machines, yet fails to draw correctly on the other. Why is this?

Odd painting behavior on one MS Windows system, when the program works fine on another system is usually caused by some of the following:

  • Bad graphics drivers. See if an update is available for the graphics cards on the computers showing the problem.
  • True-color resolution. This is really just bad graphics drivers again, but in this case there are no better graphics drivers available. If the drivers are set to 32-bit (or even 24-bit) resolution, try setting them to a lower bit density.
  • Animated cursors. Disable them.
  • Bad graphics acceleration. Turn it down.
  • Special mouse drivers (such as wheel-mouse drivers, or touchpad drivers). Again, look for corrected versions of the drivers, or if none are available, try disabling them to at least verify that this is (or is not) the problem.

Okay, Well.. Opened the java

Okay, Well.. Opened the java console, to see if something was happening in there.. And I get an error each second I move the chat box.

Well, it seems the problem

Well, it seems the problem it's having is when it tries to draw the stats panel. I know that a couple of people seem to be having a problem with this. It may have something to do with how they ported the hosting server, which is what broke the OpenGL version of the game.

A temp fix for the problem

So, it seems that the root of the problem may be that the images aren't loading properly. A temporary fix for this may be to replace all the images in your temp folder with the images contained in this zip folder: hackwars.net/images.zip

I tested this method on Windows XP and it seemed to work. I went to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\images and then copied all the images from the zip folder into that folder, making sure to replace any that already existed. I then closed my browser and then re-opened it and tried to log in and it seemed to work.

Some of you who are having this problem may try this and let us know if the quick fix works.

Possible Ghosting Solution

Hey guys, I think the ghosting problem may be caused by java not properly releasing the sockets when the game client is closed. If you try to relog and are told that you're already in all the other channels then try closing your browser so that the java applet is totally released and then try logging in again. I'm not positive that this is the problem, however it may be contributing to it. Let me know if this solution does/doesn't work for you if you have this problem.

finding windows temp folder

How to find the Windows temp folder easily:
[Win]+[R]
cmd
set t

That will list you all important old dos variables which start with t.
You are looking for TMP and TEMP. In win7 they both are set to the same value. I am not sure if they are different in XP. If they are then the temp folder in your windows dir is a bad choice.

you can also try out
set
to get a few more useful variables.

You can also try to enter %TMP% in the explorer or in the input box after hitting [Win]+[R] to go to that path. Using those variables in paths can sometimes be easier than explaining that a user has to replace with his own name.

HELP

This is not clear to me how to find the right temp folder. Ive gone into C:/ and then in /Windows and then into /Temp. loaded images in there in an images folder and also just pasted them drectly to the Temp folder for good measure. Any1 help please?

Try this

Not sure I can help you anymore than what has already been posted. If you're using Windows XP you'll want to load the temp files to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\images (except replace "username" with your windows username). If you're using a different OS then you should follow Silverlight's explanation to find the temp folder.

Hi I've just done the image copy, it works better now but the graphics r still iffy, wen i make the game full screen it is better but still slight problems. ive tried lowering hardware acceleration and also im on 24 bit color depth and 800X600 resolution but that only helps so much. any additional tips??
