Status of HackWars

Howdy Hackers,

The dev team has been hard at work behind the scenes, despite our oft-interfering activities such as school or work. As of now we don't have an update ready to release, but there has been progress. For some of us, the end of the school year is approaching; this means more time to spend on HackWars.

As a side note: there have been a few minor changes to the ToS which all of you have read at least once. You might want to take a look (and if you haven't read it yet you definitely should read it now).

Quick Server Restart and Other News

Hi Hackers,

I just ran a quick server restart, hopefully this will resolve the login troubles a few people have experienced.

In other news, development has been a bit slow recently as school and other such life matters have kept the dev team busy. However, at least for me, spring break is here and you guys can expect to see some updates soon.

Small Chat Update

There was a very small chat update tonight. Things that changed:

- The clan's channel will now get its name from the tag, not from the clans name. This was done due to the fact that some clan names were longer than the 15 allowed characters for a channel name. This might be set as optional in the future.
- The clan leader will be the only channel admin for the clan channel.

January 9th Update

Hello HackWars Community!

I know development seems to go slow and bug fixes seem at times nonexistent, but we still are hard at work. This newest update fixes a number of bugs as well as offers some brand new features! We had to make a decision between adding a friends list to chat and adding in some clan support. While it would be kind of nice to have a friends list we decided that we would rather spend the time adding in some basic clan functionality.

I know some people will be disappointed to see that there aren't more bug fixes. This was not due to a lack of effort or desire on our part. We are well aware of most the major bug issues, such as errors that occur when trying to install files sometimes. These problems are deeply rooted and kind of obscure and we were not able to track them down for this update.

You can read up on some of the new features here:

HackWars PVP Tournament

Hackers, I’d like to announce the first PVP tournament sponsored by the Hackwars Dev Team and EliteNet. Hopefully this event will draw in a decent number of participants; if you’re interested, please leave a comment below to sign up.

Here are some basic rules* for the tournament.
* Suggestions will be considered

Entry Fee: $1000
- Gotta pay something to participate, otherwise you would have nothing to lose

Location: JuniperPenetentiary
- I can easily move all contestants there, and there won’t be NPC interference. Also doesn’t need access through gateway quests

Time: To Be Determined

Goal: Be the last left with the special file given to you

Prize Money: $100,000 in-game currency

PVP Specifics
1) You will be given a file to keep in your public FTP folder. If you lose this file, or we see your public FTP empty, you are eliminated. Details on how you will receive the file will be specified later.
2) You can hack whatever you need to to steal the file from other people. All finalize functions are permitted.
3) There will be separate PVP brackets, based on total level and/or level distribution.

These rules may be changed; any changes will be posted.
The time and more specific details coming soon.
